Flax fob. Paper Manufacture.— Green flax, for purposes in connection with the manufacture of paper, is now being largely exported from Wellington to Melbourne. The Majesty op the Law. —An odd scene occurred at the Auckland Police Court a few days ago. A stone-cutter outside disturbed the proceedings by the noise of his work, and after two messages had in vain been sent to him to desist he was, much to his astonishment, brought before the Court by a policeman. He pleaded that he had to work for his living, and said he was making the stones light in order that they might be conveyed to the new Court House. Mi’. Barstow, R.M.—The few pounds you take off them will not make much difference. The Stonemason—l am taking a good many pounds off them. His Worship—lf you continue to interrupt the Court I shall take a good many pounds off you ! Mr. Burns—l have not many pounds to take. Will your Worship send me word when I may begin 1 His Worship promised that he would, and Mr. Burns left the Court.
