INTERPROYINOIAL. (Per Press Association.) Timabtj, Aug. 25. During the storm on Saturday a Chinese gardiner had his apple-cart upset, and sustained serious injuries. Last evening he appeared to be dead, and this morning the Coroner and police -were about to hold an inquest, when the Chinamen announced that the dead man had suddenly regained life at three o’clock. A medical examination since made, shews the injured man to be partially paralyzed, and in a hopeless State. The body had been laid out, when the signs of returning vitality created a consternation among the surrounding mourners. ItfVEItCAKGILI., Aug. 25. A prospecting party leaves Lumsden next week for Te Anu. Invehcaugill, Aug. 24. At a meeting at Riverton re the nonCOmpletion of the Orepuki Railway, the following resolution was passed “ This meeting regrets Government has not seen fit'to place a sura on the Estimates for the

completion of the Orepuki Railway, although the same was recommended by the Railway Commission and promised by Government. This meeting strongly urge the Government to place a sum on the Supplementary Estimates for the completion of the same. ” And it was also resolved to wire the resolution to the members for the district.

The celebrated Captain Jackson Barry lectured here for the Hospital last night, realising a good sum. Captain Dundas, Canterbury Cavalry Drill Instructor, is now here, hard at work drilling the Hussars into shape. In the case of Louis Schmolls, recently sentenced to two years for shooting at his wife, the strong point in his favor was that the bullet could not be found, the defence being that the pistol was not loaded. His wife has now found the bullet embedded in a featherbed. It was a Terry rifle bullet, and Schmolls’ son, who is in the Invercargill Cadets, is armed with a carbine of that description.
