Illegal Expenditure by Looal Bodies.— The Hon. F. Whitaker does not appear to have a high opinion of the straightness of some local bodies. In reply to a motion by Mr, Waterhouse, he said that if all local bodies who acted illegally were to bo proceeded against, Government would want half -a - . dozen Attorney-Generals. • The remedy at law lay with the ratepayers who suffered by the illegality. The motion, which was carried, was to cause the Hew Plymouth Harbor Board to refund some land fund illegally spent; failing the refund, the individual members of the Board to be proceeded against. ■ '
