PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.
(By Telegraph from our own Correspondent.) Wellington, Aug. 6. The House sat until 3 o’clock this morning. There was a scene of undignified disorder, and a waste of public time and money. At an early part of the evening the Deceased Wife’s Sister Bill passed its second reading by a majority of 44 to 14 ; but in Committee it was stonewalled by a few choice spirits, who, professing the most fastidious sanctimony on the subject entertained the House with ribald jokes, and imputations of foul motives for more than six hours. The chief performers were Messrs. Wallis, Seddon, Lundon, and Turnbull. This morning’s sitting was again very successful, and a good deal of progress was made with business, in the absence of the usual gallery audience. The Crown Grants Act Amendment Bill was passed, and the Counties Act Amendment Bill received a good many amendments and additions, which are to be again considered on Monday. The House was very thin, but there is no doubt that the morning sitting is favorable to the progress of business.
