Dear Wagering. —There are gayyouths down in Melton. One of them made a bet that he would ride his horse upstairs into the drawing-room of the house and down again. The first part of the task was accomplished in safety, but once in the drawing-room the horse refused to come down, and nothing earthly would move him. So after leaving him there for three days and nights, the side wall had to be taken down, and the animal rescued in a horse-box, which was elevated to his assistance by a steam crane. This clever and humorous joke cost somewhere about L2oo. —The World.
