Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday Evening.
Alfred Harrison reports as follows I held my weekly sale at the Yards on Saturday, July 17th, when draughts and hacks were disposed of from L 5 ss. to L 29 10s. ; pigs sold at fair prices; fowls brought 2s. to 2s. 6d. per pair ; geese, 10s. per pur; carrots, 30s. per ton; potatoes, L2 to L 2105.; apples, 55. ; oranges, 6s. 6c 1 .; barley, Is.; oats, Is., a poor sample ; cheese, 4|d. to 6jd. per lb.; lard, Bd. to lOd. A consignment of rabbits sold at Is. to Is. 9d. per pair. A quantity of furniture and sundries sold well. The attendance was good, but bidding for many lines was tardy, yet it was all round a good sale.
