CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE,

The fallowing is the report of the Christchurch Com Exchange for the week ending Friday evening, the iGth inst. Another week oi extreme quietness in the grain trade has to bo chronicled. The demand for feed grain continues good, but there is little or no alteration to note in values. Oats are being enquired for, but holders, as.a rule, are unwilling to part for the money offered. Buyers, on the other hand, who are purchasing for shipment cannot afford to advance the price, as it is solely on account of the low prices that they are operating. More speculation in grain would he carried on were freights lower, and some are anticipating that this will shortly take place. Wheat. —The market for good sound milling quality is somewhat bare, and prices for this cereal are consequently improved. For this’ quality of wheat, in large lines 1 suitable for shipment, holders are asking 3s. 9d. to 3s. 10d., f.o.b. in Lyttelton. Seed wheat, 4s. 3d. to 4s. Gd. per bushel; second quality, 3s. 2d. to 3s. 4d. per bushel; chick wheat, Is. 9d. to 2s. 4d. per bushel. Oats. —The inquiry still continues, but prices are not materially affected, good plump milling samples will meet with buyers at from Is. sd. to Is. 6d. per bushel; feed parcels, Is. 3d. to Is. 4d. inferior quality, Is. to Is. 2d. Barley.—Samples of prime malting quality are now rather difficult to obtain, and the demand is fairly good for this class. 3s. to 3s. 3d. is readily obtainable, second rate samples are plentiful, with rather a slack demand, prices ranging from 2s. 3d. to 2s. Gd. per bushel, feed quality Is. Gd. to Is. Bd. per bushel. Potatoes.—Orders are coming to hand rather more freely, but values are unchanged ; last week’s quotations must be repeated, 225. 6d. to 255. per ton, sacks extra. For forward delivery, 355. to 375. Cd. per ton, sacks extra. Grass Seed.—There is no inquiry at present. Good well-cleaned is worth 2s. 6d. to 2s. lOd. per bushel. Cheese and Butter. —4d. to for the former, 9d. to 9id. for the later.
