MOUNT HUTT ROAD BOARD.

Be road applied for by Mr. Sydney, Rolls, the Overseer reported' that he had been up to inspect the road, but, owing to the snow lying upon the ground, the, pegs could not be found, and he,-there-fore, could make no estimate of the cost.! The matter was allowed to stand over till next meeting, the estimate to be,made up in the meantime.

An application was received from Mr. George Johnstone, asking the Board to allow him to take shingle, from their pit. The Board decided not .to allow any shingle to be taken from the pit on the Board’s property, but referred Mr. Johnstone to Mr. Grigg, the owner of the pit nearer the township. An application was received- from the Presbyterians, applying for the use;of the office for the purpose of holding service in. It was resolved to allow the use of the office on a guarantee being given that it would be kept in order. Mr. Butt waited upon the Board and made a complaint against the Overseer for cutting the fence adjoining his section, and allowing the water to flow across* his land! The Board informed Mr. Butt that the Overseer had , instructions to cut the fence, to allow the water to follow its natural course. As the present fences turned the water on the road, and dii considerable damage,, Mr. Butt felt greatly aggrieved that any person other than a licensed surveyor should be empowered to cut the fence. Mr. L. Mangharn interviewed the Board, and explained that he had suffered considerable damage through the storm water washing away part of the formation of the Chertsey road ; also washing away a quantity of shingle which he had stacked on the road. He asked the Board to compensate him for his loss. Resolved that the matter be allowed to stand over until next meeting, when it would be taken into consideration. The overseer was instructed to call for tenders for several small works requiring immediate attention, said tenders to be laid before the Board at the next meeting. Tenders were opened for the drainage of main Rakaia road, about three miles, for the drainage of Winchmore road, and one in each-case was accepted. After passing several accounts, the Board adjourned until Thursday, the 12th of August., : * ■
