CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Cambridge Schoo l Committee was held in the school last Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs. Megsoa (in the chair) Watkins, Lill, Grayburn, Lloyd, and Margetts. Alter the minutes of the last meeting had been read and confirmed, the Chairman read some correspondencs he had had with the Board on a matter which had cropped up since last meeting, and on the motion of Mr. Watkins it was resolved that the Chairman’s action be approved. The schoolmaster’s report was read and considered satisfactory. Re the gymnastic apparatus mentioned in it, Mr.'Lill proprosed, seconded by Mr. Margetts, that, the Committee ask the Board to sanction the erection of some gymnastic apparatus and swings. Carried. The ground between the school door and gate requiring some gravel it was proposed by Mr. Watkins, and carried, that tenders bo called for carting ten loads more or less, of shingle on to the groun d and that the Chairman accept tenders for the same. The master having asked for some firewood, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Grayburn—“ That a quarter-cord of wood bo obtained and cut up for school use.” Re Mr. Williamson’s insolvency, the Chairman stated that at a meeting of the creditors held on the 3rd of July, Mr. Williamson had offered to pay twenty shillings in the pound, by monthly instalments, which had been accepted, and that he had given an order to the trustee, drawn on the Chairman, to retain each instalment, and pay it over to the trustee. After some discussion on the matter, it was moved by Mr. Watkins, seconded by Mr. Margetts “That the Committee refuse to endorse the order, or in any way become responsible for his liabilities, he being qualified to make each payment himself.”—Carried. The Chairman tendered his resignation, but he was unanimously asked to continue in office, which he consented to do. The master having applied for the use. of the school to hold entertainments for the purpose of raising funds for tho purchase of a harmonium for the school, it was unanimously resolved to grant his request. Mr. Williamson,,who was present, notified that he intended to commence the series of entertainments by a lecture on an early moonlight evening, on “ Agricultural Chemistry,” illustrated with experiments. Several small accounts were passed for payment, and after a vote of thanks to the Chairman, the meeting adjourned till the first Monday in August
