THE DOMAIN.

To THE EDITOR. Sir, —I am glad to notice that raj' enquiries re the Domain have evoked a reply—unsatisfactory, but still a reply. I am for the first time made aware that L. 15 of public money have been spent in preparing a croquet ground. By whose leave or from what grant ? I should like to ask. I think, Sir, this shows more then ever the necessity of having the actions of the Domain Board under the control of the public, so that they may be brought to-account, as all bodies controlling the expenditure of public funds ought to bo. Why should this body be exempted from having their accounts audited and published when all other public bodies have to go to the expense of electing auditors and paying for Returning officers ? “ Mallet ” says Ll5O has been gi’auted to the cricket-ground, perhaps the autocrat of the Domain will tell us how it has been spent; the information will be welcome to more than one. Ratepayer.
