THE MOORHOUSE RECOGNITION BILL.

That much-abused body the Legislative Council of New Zealand has for once shown the superiority of its wisdom over that of the representatives of the people, in throwing out the Moorhouse Services Recognition Bill. Only a few days since we expressed suiprise at such a production being introduced into the Lower House, and more so when the Bill received the sanction of Governmentand passed through all its stages with very trifling opposition. It will be observed however, on reference to our Parliamentary report, that the “ lords” treated the matter with the ridicule which it invited, and speakers viewed the measure in the light of an insult to Mr. Moorhouse. The proposal of Captain Fraser to give Mr. Moorhouse 5,000 acres of land, would, no doubt be far more acceptable to the latter gentleman, and release him from the obloquy attaching to the possession of a State pauper’s ticket.
