It is rumored that Mr Thurston, the Colonial Secretary of Fiji, has been appointed Commissioner of Polynesia vice Sir Arthur Gordon, whose future residence will be in Sydney. The Victorian Land Commission recommend that on the termination of the leases in January the Government should subdivide the land into blocks of from one to ten thousand acres, and grant leases for ten years at the former rate, with a compensation for improvement clause.
