DOMESTIC INTELLIGENCE.

Court of Requests.—The Court of Requests held its fust sittings yesterday. It had always beeu considered the first sitting would be a very long one fiorn the multitude of cases thai would be brought forward. We rejoice to slate such was not the fact. The cases being few and unimpoitaut. This speaks well for the correct judgment of the people of Auckland. A little patience, and such a Court will be scarcely needed. Much as we dislike sinecures, we hope that the appointment of Commissioner may soon prove to be one. His Honour the Chief Justice left Russel on the Ist instant, and arrived in Auckland on the 13th, we are happy to aay in good health. His Honour took an entirely new and exploratary track, but as two Sundays were appropriated to rest and devotion, and nearly one whole day vro.3 lost by the accident of one man stiaying the forest, His Honour is said to have expressed an opinion that a week will be ample time to perform this journey on foot, after one or two more perfect trials, We venture to guess that His Honour's note-book of this journey will contain matter of great interest and utility, and we shall be gratefid for an opportunity of giving to the public any information His Honour may be disposed to publish.— Auckland Times. KawRIE Gtjm.—This product hitherto used for little else than lighting fires, has it is said been manufactured into a sheathe ing for ship's bottoms. There is every probability also, that a good Varnish could be made from it.
