DOMESTIC INTELLIGENCE.
Improvements. That various ims prov ( meuts tiiflingin themselves but impor tant in the aggregate are in aetivd pro. Uif ss, no one can deny, who perambulates Auckland and its neighbouihoori. and observes as he perambulates. The Piers at Soldier's Point and Official Bay will be of rruch value and comfort, and those fond of sea side walks', will have full opportunity of indulgence on the Esplanade forming between Commercial and Official Bay. We understand that when the little vessel now building for the Government in Mechanic's Bay is completed, she will supercede the Government Brig, which is to be sold. The result of our enquiries leads us to imagine, however, that the new craft will be used for the purpose of marine Purveying. Labour.—-After the repeated outcry of want of labour for our population, the advertisement in our columns of this day for fifty Maories to proceed to the Barrier Island must excite some surprise. On enquiry we find that Messrs. Abercrombie offered £25 per annum and Rations for all white persons who would engage, but could not succeed in procuring the nums ber they required, and are consequently obliged to obtain Maories, As we believe Mr. Cretnay is authorised by Messrs. Abercrombie to give the same terms to unemployed Enigrants, there can be no excuse now for any one passing their time in idleness. Breeding Sows.—We perceive Mr. Nathan has a Sale of valuable breeding sows on Wednesday next. They are the produce of swine imported in the " Louisa Campbell," and must be a decided addition to a farm yard, they will doubtless obtain high prices. Theatre.—For the time being this place of amusement is closed. We hope however, that so rational a species of entertainment will soon be renewed. While wishing Mr. Buckingham every success in his new undertaking as a coffee house keeper, we hope ere long to see him again in his proper element as a stage manager and actor. &
Albion Cricket Club.—On Saturday last this Club met for an afternoons psacs tice. Several of the principal players of preceding seasons were absent, but there was some good play. We were glad to perceive some new faces amongst the members, and hope that the excitement of this manly game will cause a powerful addition to the number of the Club.
