VISIT OF HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCE ALBERT TO THE ISLE OE WIGHT.
His Royal Highness Prince Albert left Claremont on Monday morning at half-past six o'clock attended by MajorGeneral Sir Edward Bowater, Equerry in Waiting, and Mr. 6. E. Anson, private Secietary, and proceeded in a carriage and four to the Esher station of the South Western railway en route for the Isle of Wight. At Gosport station the Prince was received by Sir Charles Rowley, the Port-Admiral. Admiral Sir Hyde Parker, Major-General Sir Hugh Pakenham, Commander of the Garrison, Captain Rowley, &c. His Royal Highness ims mediately entered Admiral Rowley's carriage, and drove to the Clarence Vic* tualling-yard, where the Admiral's barge was in waiting to convey him on board the Black Eagle, then lying distance off in the harbour. His Royal Highness landed at East Cowes, aud proceed to Osborne-house. Arriving there his Royal Highness inspected the various apartments, It has been agreed to give £28.000 for the freehold estate outright, provided her Majesty is satisfied with the accommodation the house affords, In any event the mansion is taken for one year certain, at a rental of £I,OOO, We have the best authority say<? the " Britannia," for announcing that theac~ conchment of Her Majesty is to take place at the latter end of June, or the early part of July-next, and that all the necessary preparations and arrangements have been made accordingly. The royal yacht will be in readiness for the marine excursions of her Majesty and the Prince Consort by the first or second week in August* The Siege of Jellalabad.— Sil» ver medals are at present being struck off at the Mint, for the pnrpose of being pre. sented to those whe were present at the siege of Jellalabad.
