THEATRE.
On Monday evening the Eastern Spec* tacle, entitled the Cloud King was played, and we must say with very good effect, as the dresses were appropriate, the characters well sustained, and the Scenery and Machinery done infinite credit to Mr. Marriott, who we believe was the princia Pal assistant lo Mr. Buckingham in getting up the piece. We were sorry to see the hot.se so very thinly attended, but there is no doubt that on the next production of l he Cloud King, the Theatre will be belter attended. We hear that S: M. D. Martin, Esq., M. D., J. P., M. L. C, editor and proprietor of the Southern Cross, &c. &c. &c. is in treaty with "the powers that be w ior a siliiauon, that of C. P. M. of Akaroa. iVe shall not be surprised to find that our infoitnant is correct as there has been a good deal of " 9oh sawdor" in the Cross ui Jute, and we have no doubt HE,will eagerly accept any appointment that wH| pay him better than continuing to print a newspaper in Auckland. H. M. S. Hazard has gone up the river to be over hauled, as she has leaked lately. .
