His Excellency the Governor returned to Auckland by the Hazard, on Monday evening, from Taranaki, whi<m he left on the fjth instant, after arranging the matters in dispute between the Company's settlers and the Natives, as far as he possibly ; could. The Hazard, after leaving Taranaki touched at Port Ni. cholson, but the'Governor did not land, and left there on the 9th instant. His Excellency, with Col. llulm of the-96th and about thirty men, Captain Bennett, royal Engineers, &c, &c, departed for the Bay of Islands on Wednesday morning in the Government Brig Victoria and H. M. S. Hazard in order to examine the native John Heki who has acted in such an outrageous manner lately. We know the Governor is determined to have Heki's conduct fully investigated, and it will be useless in him or his followers to make any attempt of resistance as there is a force of about 220 soldiers and/ 150 men from the Hazard and the Victoria. This is the first time that such a force have made their appearance among the natives, and we sincerely hope and trust, there will be no occasion for such another display of our prowess. His Excelleney has won golden opinions from all classes for the prompt manner in which he has acted in all cases of emergency since his arrival amongst us, but more particularly for his adopting the course that is now being persued with regard to Heki and some of his deluded followers.
