OVERLAND POST.
A person started on Monday last with the mail for Port Nicholson, by way of Kawhia, and 'Farawake, and it is expected that there wH! be no difficulty in Keeping up a communication with the southern settlements once in (he course of a month after the first or second journey has been performed. The messenger going from Auckland will readily arrive at Kawhia in five days,.calling at \\ aikato W angarou and Otea, and return in the same time. The Wellington messenger will arrive at New Plymouth, calling by the way at Waikaui, Otaki, Maaawatu, and Wanganui, in the course of twelve days from Port Nicholson. The mail can then be sent on from New Plymouth to Kawhia a ftve days journey to meet the Auckland messenger. It will however be necessary that two messengers be stationed on the line betwixt Wellington and New Plymouth, so that the Wellington messenger may meet the Taranaki post at ManawatuThe expeace would not cost more than £250 per annum, a much cheaper and more expeditious mode than by the government brig. Communications from Nelson and Akaroa, for Auckland , can be forwarded to Wellington by vessels from these places almost weekly.
