The Auckland Chronicle. Thursday, August, 1, 1844.

Our Friends, Subscribers, and the Public, are re-pectfuliy informed that the present number of the Chronic 'e closes the last (juarte- of the second year. The Free, . Independant, Unbiassed course we have pursued throughout the publication of this Journal, is the best pledge:we can give for our furture conduct. We are happy to see our efforts have, in Some degree been appreciated; many fresh subscribers having been fcdded to our list, and on reference to our advertising columns it will be seen wo have had our share of patronage; still we are without any adequate remuneration for the arduous task we have to perform, owing to the. backjjfgavdness of our Friends with their I subscriptions ; our receipts being barely sufficient to pay Printers wages ; our Friends presuming we can exist upon the happy reflections of our disinterested and patriotic exertions in the cause of liberty and our adopted country. We have patiently tried this pi an for some time past and we do assure them that it is a beautiful idea, were it not that sundry loud calls of nature for sustenance and clothing, prove to us we are only mortals, and the beauty of the illusion is at once destroyed. " A word to the wise is sufficient," therefore we forbear to say more on pecuniary matters, which is a more painful subject to us than to the most backward of our subscribers, we only wish they would jpay up and save us the mortification of further solicitation, which is so very un- . genteel. The public will find it their interest to subscribe to, and advertise in the width is the oldest paper in Auckland, and extensively circulated throughout the Colony; we have every variety of type to render advertisements

conspicuous, the terms are reduced and can be seen by a reference to the foot of our last page, having followed.the example of our cotemporary. (the Times.) We beg to return our sincere acknowledgments to Advertisers and Correspondents and hope they will continue their patronage.
