We would suggest to the merchants, and shopkeepers of Auckland the propriety of raising alfUbsciiption for the Purpose of supplying the Town with a fire engine ; we are at a loss to account for the foolish indifference of the people of Auckland on this subject, and we fear they will not begin to think seriously of it until a destructive fire breaks out and many of them are severe sufferers. It is not because they have hitherto escaped, that an accident of this sort will never occur. We think it our duty to give this timely caution and hope it will be attended to*
