Original Correspondence. To the Editor of the Auckland Chronicle. Dear Sir, Should you considerthe accompanying tines worthy of a place in your valuable paper, they may tend to amuse some of your numerous readers; and the humble author thereby will be .- encouraged to send you occasionally some of his poor productions ; hoping any alteration deemed neccessary will be made. Yours respectfully, S. Australian. Auckland, July 13, 1844. THE REMEMBRANCE. Sweet vale where tender friendship rears her bower! And breathes that sacred fragrance to the skies; That closer clings in tiials sombre hour, When faded fortune o’er her ruin sighs. Oft have I rov’d thy winding paths along. Or gaz’d on scenes that cheer the pilgrims way ; 0f Calmly listened to the pious song Ascending slowly at the close of day, JsSacb little warbler, from his mossy bower, Salutes io melting strains the coming morn ; Calls the rich nectar from the blushing flower, Or sips the dewy crystals from the thorn. fate now tear me from this lovely spot, .Furiher'my heart its objects e’er shall dwell, INlo’ bright the future with ray present lot, I fondly linger while I sigh “ Farewell.” S.
