Captain Reynolds, who arrived if the Hazard a short time since, has kindly fav- ured us with the original, in Spanish, and a *'anslatipn in English, of a notice which appeared in El fMercurio, January 8. We give the latterj:.. “ Notice, the undersigned being desirous of send* ir g. to the province of Valdivia, some of the settlers from amongst those recently arrived from New Holland and New Zealand, offers to provide ( iy reasonable terms) with land, and the imple ments most needful in its cultivation, those who may wish to proceed to the above named province. Those interested-in the above announcement should apply to the undersigned at the stores of Thompson and Matriarlane, on the beach. Conditions : To lather of a family, or to him who has two individuals able to work under his charge, there wilt be allotted the following. A portion of land reni free, a proportion of seed, the first year (gratis,) for ili - purpose of sowing, a yoke of oxen, a milch cow, ingether with agricultural and Rawing implement', the cost of which is to be repaid by a proportionate amount of labour. Both agricultural labourers and sawyers will receive for the produce of the ground which they may cultivate, and for the timber which they may cut, the prices which they may be worth in that part of the country, as is customary in the case of the peasantry residing on the various estates. Those who, after one year’s experience, may not be inclined to remain, can leave, upon returning wbat they have received, with the exception of the seed, which will not be required from them. Rafal V: H g z t> E A'acf./’ From life Valparaiso Er.glkh Mercury, January 6, 1644. ‘‘ln tbe earnest hope ill nit be publication of the names of those of our countrymen who have arrived .fr'om Sydney in the baique Frances, with an indication of the several trades which they profess, may be the means of their obtaining employment, we beg to direct attena jion to the list given on the other side. Many of tin m are married and have families, and in addition to those various occupations pursued by those whose names we publish, there are others followed by some of those who arrived in the Brougham, Michael Williams, Margaret Connell, &;c., viz..; those of butcher, cooper, miller, sailmaker, silversmith, skinner, &c. Seduced, as it would appear to us, through false representations to visit the shores of this country, we make an earnest appeal to all our countrymen in their behalf; an appeal which we are well satisfied will not be made in vain, to those whose means enable them to suocour ihe more unfortunate. And what situation more unfortunate or more worthy of compassion, than those of our countrymen, thus beguiled to leave their little all, and visit this foreign strand 1 The liberal conduct of this Government in providing them with shelter in their hour of need, merits and warmest praise.” (On the next page follow about sixty names.) A SoLiuQuoY.— One of the wags of a New York paper wanifc to go to Texas, aud he thus ruminates upon the subject:— “To goto Texas, or not to go, that am the question ’—whether it aie better to stay at home, and bare these ere ills which we has got, or to take up arms against a lot of Mexicans and Ingines and by fighting ’em, kill ’ Vm. To fight, to fire f taint nothing more, nor baidiy that, but in that fight of ourn, what bullets may come, when we have shuffled off a shot or two, must bid as consider on‘t. Aye, there’s where it rubs I Rather guess me won’t go on the whole.’’
