THE LATE PUBLIC MEETING.
The misunderstanding which took place between the Governor and those gentle* men who formed the deputation from the Public Meeting, held at the Mechanic's Institute, appears to have led to angry feelings, and indiscreet reflections upon his Excellency's conduct. The Governor we all know is affable and courteous in his behaviour, easy of access, and willing to give audience at proper seasons to any parties calling on business; but iu order to get through the amount of business upon his bands, is compelled to economize his time by arranging the business of each day, and when a persons time is fully occupied interruptions, we know, are not pleasant to any of us. It is usual for gentlemen deputed in such cases to send a copy of the resolutions to the Governor, and request to know when it would be convenient to favour them with an interview. We cannot therefore wonder at his Excellency's surprise and resentment at what he had a right to consider a personal insult, when he found the room filled with tag, rag, and bob tail, as well as the gentlemen forming the deputation We are informed that one gentleman of the deputation requested as many of the people as chose to accompany them to walk up with the deputation and hear the result. We only regret that the temper of these gentlemen prevented them from hearing what the Governor had to say - when after all angry feelings had subsided and proper explanations given, the business of the Meeting would have been entered into and the public would have obtained a reply.
