CONSOLATION TO LAND CLAIMANTS.
A poor worn out traveller appeared before heaven’s gate, and loudly knocking cried out for admittance. “Who have we here/’ said St. Peter ? “A weary pilgrim,” answered the trembling man, “ who has just quited a wicked and troublesome world, and earnestly seeks to be admitted into the abode of heavenly rest.” “ True, true,” said St. Peter, “ but my good man, what title have you to plead that you should be admitted into these regions of bliss? have you ever been in purgatory?” V No, your holy Reverence,” answered the man, “but L have been a Land Claimant in New Zealand.” “ A Land Claimant in New Zealand,” said St. Peter, “ Open the Gates, open the gates, porter, this poor man has suffered infinitely more than the torments of purgatory, conduct him to the regions of peace and happiness, and give him a large grait in the celestial gardens of paradise.”
