NATIVE INSTRUCTION. At a PUBLIC MEETING held in (he Wes* levan Cbapel at Auckland, on Tuesday Evening, Mav 14th, 1844, Rev. Mr. Lawry in the Chair, the following Resolutions were unanimously passed Ist. Resolved : That it appears to this Meeting very desireable to instruct a selected number of the Natives of New Zealand in our language, with a view to their having access to the stores of English Literature “ and also to their becoming more efficient teachers of their countrymen, both in matters of religion, and civilization. Moved by Dr. Martin. Seconded by Dr. Johnson, Supported by the Rev. John 2nd. Resolved ; That as (he vicinity of Auckland is deemed the most eligible locality for the commencement of such an Institution, an early application shall be made to the Colonial Govern* ment for a suitable pieoe of land. And also that application be made for the appropriation of a fair and equitable proportion of the funds arising from the Native reserves. Moved by the Rev. James Wallis. Seconded by W. E. S. Graharae, Seconded by Mr. S. Robinson, 4th. Resolved * That a provisional committee be appointed for the porpose of raising funds, and controuling the same; that Dr. Martin, Messrs. Brown, Cleghorn, Cormack, W. S.and G. Grahame and Vaile, be members of the Committee, together with the Wesleyan Missionaries, the Treaatirer and Secretary. (Ex Officio.) Moved by the Rev. Thomas Buddie, Seconded by M r. George Grahame. Supported by Mr. Barrow, sth. Resolved: That for the purpose of securing an early commencement of the Native Establish* ment a Subscription be forthwith beguu. Moved by Mr. H. Lawry. Seconded by Dr. Martin. The Subscription entered into on the spot amounted to 461, 15*. 6d, To X.amd Claimants. H. R. CRETNAY, BEGS leave to inform his friends and the public, that, as now at last the Government have determined to place themselves in a position to satisfy the awards of the commissioners in favour of all Claimants whose demands have been adjusted, he will be most, happy to offer his agency to all parlies desirous of effecting purchase or exchange. From the commencement of the settlement of the Colony, H. R. C. has been in possession of information from the Surveys and other public documents of the Colony, which will enable him to guide the choice of the purchaser, whether in Town, Suburban, or County sections. H. R. C. has the pleasure to inform the Claimants that the Letter of instructions from His Excellency the Governor to the Surveyors is of the most liberal nature, —that every facility of choice is to be afforded, and no stint in the measurement, If instructions are given to the advertiser of the the amount awarded, and the district desired for purchase or exchange, every reliance may be placed upon his skill and integrity in making the selection.
