GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

During the last fortnight copies of the above publication have been sent to our office, by whose authority we know not, but as we made application for a copy Six months since / perhaps Mr. Leech has taken the matter into his serioifs consider* ation ; we told the acting Colonial Secretary at the time of our application that it was us-jal to supply the newspaper proprietors with a copy gratis, when he replied it should be inquired into. On Friday afternoon last, a copy of the Government Gazette was brought to us and on the following morning the

messenger applied to have it returned him Mi consequence of some mistakes; and in *fhe course of the morning we should have a corrected copy | We would ask when does this official publication appear without mistakes ? What do Mr. Leech's abilities avail him, as an accountant, general superintendent, inspector general, &C, &c, &c, if he is not able to put four or five pages of the Gazette to press in a correct manner ? even the Debeutures Were not printed without typographical errors ! When are we to' have a stop put to this ? We were in hopes his Excellency would have been advised ere this, by some disinterested person, whether or not the continuance of the Government Printing Office be beneficial to the Colony. We will conclude these few remarks by asking one simple question,— What becomes of all the paper spoiled in the Government Printing Office by mistakes, &c. ? We are informed it is at present the perquisite of certain parties counected with the Office, who therefore find it their interest to destroy the property of the public, as it yields them in the course of the year a good sum. We have heard of sundry bills being paid off by the sale of Government waste paper aUa grocers.
