H, tbe Prince of was launched from the Royal Dockyard at Pembroke, jn the latter end of April last. Her constructica is entirely novel, and, according to tbe designs prepared by the Surveyor of tbe Navy ; and is considered by competent judges to be superior in point of beauty, buoyancy,and strength, to any other description of steam teasel ever produced in England. well as of her great strength, when it is stated she is built only with plank, the first two 'avers b'ing of oak one inch and three-quarters thick, placed across each other diagonally, at an angle of forty* five dearer, the ou'side plank being of larch, three inches thick, lying longitudinally, or with the sheer of the ship; and the whole being bound with Verticals and diagonal iron bonds. Between each layer cf plank the surface is cvered with thick tarred felt, the vessel therefore cannot leak, nor be jn the least degree damp inside, and being divided into five compartments by watertight bulkheads, extending as high as th* state deck, it is impossible for the body ever to sink, although it might be isilgged from aocident in any part. The following are the principal dimensions of the vessel : Length extreme, 225 feet ; on the deck, 205 feet ; between perpendiculars 200 feet; of keel for tonnage, 181 feet, 2 inches. Breadth outside paddle--boxes, 59 feet; for tonnage, 33 feet. Depth in hold, 22 feet 5 burden in tons, 1049. Her engines ate of 450 horse power.
