Now that the Officer Administering the Government knows what Lord Stanley’s instructions to him are respecting Ncw s Zealand, we hope and trust, that

lie wiil devise some immediate plan for the employment of the idle emigrants that are now loitering about Auckland. Some of these men have large families ; they have been induced to come out to this country by the representations of the Home Government’s Agent, and in the name of all that is just, we ask, are these poor people to die in our streets for want ? Some of them have not had half employ since their arrival ; (upwards of 12 months !) they were brought out by Governiqpnt, aud surely Lord Stanley would npyer censure our Acting Governor for giving employ to these ppoplp {o save them from perishing, on thp ,cpqtrary, we have every reason to bplipve he would be commended. It may be said that, there are few idle in Auckland. We admit there arc fevy, but there are families now in town which have no visible means of support, and many men are in the bush working for their rations, until the arrival of capitalists, which we hope are now on their way to our shores, but we repeat, that the Officer Administering the Government, should give instructions for the immediate employment of these poor people. They cannot, will not,— Starve !
