THE DUELLO.

(Communicated.) ; Sundry extremes of opinion. as to the propriety of this mode of arbitrement in cases cf dispute among gentlemen preva : l in modern days —"Your IF,"" is a proverbial peacemaker—the Lynx eye of a Police Magistrate, or perhaps rather we should say his eari often prevents the waste of powder; and then sometimes the good sense oi a fiend procures a sincere and genuine exp'anation where passion would have pushed matters to extremes; but in Auckland, somehow it is not necessary that any of these fortunate matters should interfere. The son of a Scotch Baronet, and M. P. a gentleman from the same part of North Britain have afforded the "on dit»" of the passing hour; the former (a man of some inches too,) wii, it is said, bring the latter before a jury to account for very thoroughly dusting his jacket without leave; as this is the case it wpuld not be proper to say a word about the alleged " pro's andlcons" hereafter to be divulged. Your advertising columns will show I believe that another of these terrible affairs was happily settled this week without bloodshed. [We have heard something about the affair, of which our friend speaks, and his abservations however sarcastic are witty and just. Ed.]
