Domestic Intelligence.

MARKETS. f Since our last publication.)

Tea.— No sales of any consequence have beeu effected. Fine qualities scarce; holders ask as high as £lO per chest. Sugar. Litt e has been done in this article, prices stationary.

SfJBITS. —Adfcrge quantity of arrack in the mai and much inlKl alter. Brandy, Gin, and good quality, in fair demand ; low qualities dull, the only demand hning for the Coast to supply the \>ut stations.

Flour.—Ten tons sold this week, for the Coast stations; the bakers, with a few exceptions being fully supplied ; the weekly consumption being large, we may expect a demand.

Stock.—-The sheep by iheLuna, (consigned to Mr. Cretnay), are much enquired after ; but the agent is holding firm at a higher price than already offered ; these wethers were landed in better condition than the two former lots. Pigs, ihe price has dropped a halfpenny to a penny per pound ; many arrivals from the Coast and overland, generally fine lots, 1\ I. to 3d per pound. Bfef in demand at lOd, per pound retail. Twenty six head of cattle brought per Shamruc/i, from die Bay <d Islands, have all l>eeu disposed of at good pi ices.

Errata. —ln Hat of ii-ho/esale prices in our last, for " Sherry per lu'id." read per quarter-cask • for " rorl per hhd." read per quarter-co-ik*

Reported Acei dkn r. We have made inquiiy respecting a current rumour of. a canoe bftji'ig been u set in Alanak'au harbour, when several lvnop"aiis and »aiiv< s w re said to lutve perished. \\ e believe ihu fepo't t" Ue nniutfaded.

Cricket. -We learn that, since the return march between the '« Albion" and «« Kent" clubs, (won .by the latter by 22 runs, and recorded in our last,) a challenge has be- n given by the gentlemen of the '■ Albion," to play another game on •Monday next, January 2, and accepted by the Kentites, to come off on their new plav ground; the wickets to be pitched at eleven o'clock. Each clnb having beaten the othet, the beitiug is now even. Much interest is excited as to the result of this game. On the last occasion the sport was witnessed by a large assembly ; and, as another holiday has been chosen, we have no douot the play-ground will again exhibit a stirring Old English scene.

Melancholy Accident.—We have the painful duty of recording the death of three immigrants, arrived by the late vessels from Scotland, by drowning. These unfortunate men, whilst crossing the harbour for a load of scoria, had their boat overturned in a heavy squall. The boat has been washed up, but none of the bodies. We have not heard the names of the sufferers.

Police.—Yesterday there was a long investigation at the Police - Office ; a laborer named Thorburn being the plain tiff, and a native of the Nga'ipara tiibe called Hone, being the defendant. It appeared that Thorburn had accused the native of stealing a pig, his property; but it was clearly proved, after a patient inquiry, that he was mistaken as to the identity of the animal.

Cheap Bread.—A baker, and dealer in Chancery street, has reduced the price of the 21b loaf to sd. This, or even a lower price, would yield an excellent profit, at the present price of flour. It will be seen by our list of wholesale prices of that article, that it has fallen considerably, while the stock has been greatly augmented by tresh arrivals during the present month,* as will be seen by om import manifests in another column. At the t resent low rate of wages, holders of flour, and especially the bakers, should be content with a small remunerating profit upon a commodity so indispensable, and of such extensive consumption, iu every family, as bread.
