asked of me by Carrington and Chillman in concert, viz, - Mr. Wicksteed's original letter, or ottherways a supbaoena to attend the court at Wellington on the 7th. of May. I told them that I wished by all means to avoid going to Wellington in the present state of affairs; but if the certified copy I offered was not sufficient, I could look out the original; at the same time satisfying myself by advice from Mr. Halse, as to whether an attested copy would not be equally as good. As Mr. Halse informed me it would not, I then produced that same evening the original, to avoid, if possible, a journey to Wellington; though there are several hints made as to the probability of nor being supbaoned there. At home all day writing in copies of Native and English letters. Bathed with Mr. Mantell about 3 p.m. Called at Mr. Chillman's in the evening; and was told by him that I was sure of being supbaoned
