24 Hurae 1851 E hoa, e Te Makarini, Tena ra koe. Noku tena whenua a Mangati, a Waioaka, a Waitaha. Ko Ngatapakurari te whenua o taku kuia, o Hinekaimano. Ko aku tipuna ko Rakei-nui-te-kapua, ko Ngaiwitara. He nui noa atu aku whenua, kua nohoia e nga tangata i te kainga. Ko Te Arakuku, ko Paora me tana whanau ko ratou katoa kei te noho i runga i nga whenua o aku tipuna. Kua mate katoa aku tipuna, ko matou anake ko aku taina i ora, ko aku tamariki. Friend, listen to my justification. Ngati Kaingaika is my tribe, the tribe of my family[?]. Don't think that the only people of that land[?] are as you wrote in your letter. That land - of Mangati, Waioaka and Waitaha - is my land. Ngatapakurari was the land of my grandmother, Hinekaimano. And my ancestors were Rakei-nui-te-kapua and Ngaiwitara. I have very many lands which are occupied by the people of the settlement. Te Arakuku, Paora and their family are all living on the lands of my ancestors. All my elders have died and only I and my younger relatives survive, and my children. If you approve my letter, then I will approve the land, but if not, I will not give approval for it. So, it is up to you, but don't consider[?] the rights of [?] the people of Pitone, Te Uruhi and Arapawa, and mine, leave undisturbed. From me, from Ngahenga Te Watarauihi, Te Teira, Te Ponui
