13 March 1853 Port Nicholson, that is, Te Aro and out to Parore, and right out to the sea in the west, is the part we think you should give us coppers for, because all the people of Port Nicholson have taken payments for that side, and we have had none. So we thought to contact you because we too own that part, and those in the south did not think of us. Another part we thought about was Wairarapa, Te Mahia and out to Ahuriri, and right on to Turanganui. These were lands of our ancestors, that is, Turanga, in the past, and we are the descendants on that land. Listen, you two, to what Te Kani-a-Takirau said to Ngati Ruanui, that if they were to be paid, then they should have a discussion [?] with him. We said to Te Kani that if Turanga is to be sold there should be discussion [?]
