Wallingford June 15th/64 My dear McLean, I have yours by the Mail and as I propose being with you the middle of next week need not write much - about Russell resignation I will write by this mail to him and Lambert - asking Russell to support Lambert if he must resign himself - and asking Lambert to come in. I will write Gollan also to assist - Lambert is the best man I know of to get in Russell's place - he is moderate and reasonable. What has made J. A. resign? For the Executive Seats - Rhodes and Kennedy will do very well I think in fact I dont know who else would do. It wd. have been better if Smith had kept in till the Session was over. You must have "one" Town Member in your Executive and Rhodes will represent the agricultural class. I see what you say about Cooper's follies. The resolution I sent you was passed I hear by the Bench. I should have liked to have seen Fox as he passed. It appears to me great rubbish to make so much of Wi Tako's allegiance but it is Fox all over. From the letters you enclose the Wairoa and Mohaka people are in a state of alarm. Did Hunter know and not make any report on the state of affairs? He shd. have done, if the cause for these letters existed. As to old Worgan's letter I put very little reliance on it. The old rip would make a story up out of very little material. Still the letters do for the Gen. Govt. tho' it is to be hoped the alarm contained in them is unnecessary. If anything should occur there the the little Steamer would be invaluable. I will not write more now as I shall see you so soon. We leave here on Monday and expect to be down on Wednesday. The Road Bill I will go over and bring down with me. Yours always, J. D. Ormond.
