Government House,New Zealand June 25/72 My dear McLean, I send you a note from that troublesome Col. or Capt. Rookes, who seems very anxious to retain his rank in the Sierra Leone Militia. I wish he was in ---- Africa. I called at your house this afternoon to ask when we had better decide on starting; for, if you wish to remain here till Monday, I may as well arrange to shoot somewhere on Saturday. But I would just as soon start on Saturday. I suppose there is nothing particular to write home abt. Native Affairs in addition to your able Memm. sent from the Waikato by last Mail? I shall write via Suez on Thursday. Ever yrs. truly, G. F. Bowen
