Waiapu Pah 20th July 1865 Sir, I have the honor to inform you, that it will be very unsafe to land any stores or ammunition at "Awanui" as the road along which they would have to be brought, for us to get them, is a very dangerous one completely covered by the sea cliff the whole way, and would take a thousand men or more to defend. I have therefore to recommend, that everything be landed here, opposite the Pah, when the surf abates.
