My dear McLean, The duplicate receipt you ask for is in the Resident Magistrate's office at Whanganui. The original is in the Colonial Secretary's Office. Herewith my Statement of the transaction, in consequence of which you were relieved of the charge of the £6. Your plan would involve 2 separate sets of paper, and everything absurd of the abominable audit arrangements. Besides which, I never took the £5 on Charge at all. Pouha's receipt is made out (I think) in your favour; and as you are the party to claim reimbursement, I don't, I confess, see how my name can in any way affect your claim. I think it will all be noted by Gourst at the Colonial Secretary's office. Yours sincerely (Signed) J.W. Hamilton. To:- D. McLean Esq.
