Napier 27 June 62. My dear MacLean, I wrote to you last mail and expected you would come down by the "Swan". The civil commission has come to grief I send you two papers the Herald and the Times it is worth your while to read the remarks in the case "Scully v. Colenso". There is no end of rows amongst the natives regarding the old reserves not however with those I have had to do with. Russell has been very kind and praises my work, how much I notice this you can guess? He wanted me to stay with him but I do not intend to do so there is yet some more to do Waipukurau River. Henry Russell gets disputes, and some-rouguery behind the scenes. Inglis and Gullys' old place Ohuamaru, Otane, Waipoura etc. Do write me a line by return of Post.
