(Copy) Mission House, New Plymouth, Jany. 26th, 1847. Sir, On behalf of the Wesleyan Missionary Society - I beg to lay before you the copy of a letter addressed to the Rest. Agent of the N.Zealand Company and of his reply thereto, in reference to our Mission land in this settlement, and to request your official interference in the matter, according to the provisions of the "Native Land Purchase Bill". Acting on the advice of the Resident Agent, I caused a notice of Ejectment to be duly served upon the man Loveridge in Octr.last, the only effect of which was, that he became doubly diligent in turning up the soil, and in sowing his crops - In this, he was urged on by Mr.W. Carrington, and the Native "Bob" - A plot of ground (about 1/2 an acre) which I had laid down in grass and clover, he maliciously hacked up and sowed with wheat, leaving other cleared land in the immediate neighbourhood, to lie fallow.
