Opotiki, July 10th 1870 My dear Moule Everything is very quiet here, nothing whatever stirring, four Whakatohea's have come in Timo Hira Te Popo and party, and Raku raku and his family (Urewera's) came in to Whakatane. I have sent him back to Ruatahuna, I think that he will bring out some of the leading men, nothing is known about Te Kooti. That was a serious affair at Tauranga, do you suppose that the fire was accidental or not? We are getting better weather now, but it has been very bad. I think that I shall ride up about the end of the week. Yours very truly W. G. Mair
