Otaki January 7 1873 H.T. Clarke Esq. G.B. Wellington Petera and Kihawa are behaving well in this matter. I expect it will take some time to get it adjusted. The people here are becoming slaves to drunkenness. I was going to telegraph Superintendent about publicans license but I hear his time is nearly up. Heaphy can have leave. I hope arrear works are being disposed of. Natives complained yesterday of not having replies to their letters. This requires to be guarded against in future.
