(Private.) New Plymouth 30th. June, 1852. Dear McLean, Many thanks for getting me the copy of the Ordinance which received on board the Eclair I did not conceive was accompanied with any letters, and put it away with my other packages. On their arrival at my home I was vexed to find that under the wrapper was an envelope covering letters which had thus been unwittingly detained by me. I hope however no inconvenience was occasioned by the delay in their delivery. Capn. King arranged with me to hold office till the end of the month. I have therefore deferred putting on harness until to-morrow, when Capn. King is to resign all matters into my hands. Cooper informs me that the Chiefs connected with the Bell block have taken the money (£30) to settle that purchase and from Stockman I learn that many of the Natives at the Waitara are desirous to sell
