same information from Karepa, on the afternoon of the 8th. inst., and on the following day I communicated that information to the Government. I also wrote to the Resident Magistrate at Opotiki, a letter (copy of which I enclose), but unfortunately owing to the flooded state of the Rivers, and the absence of any vessel, I was unable to send it until the morning of the 17th. inst.
