New Plymouth Jany. 24, 1859. Dr. Sir Just as I was sitting down quietly to write you a few lines privately - Mahau steps in and requests me to write a letter for him as enclosed. I have therefore barely time to say anything but thanks for your esteemed favour of the 14th. inst. I assure you Sir just at the present time I have a great deal of riding about what with Mimi, Taranaki of the more immediate vicinity of home. I have but very little time for writing however I have a friend in Halse. Mahau is very anxious for you to come down, but not more so than I am I can assure you - he is going in for Waiongana, so soon as he can see his way clear. I have sent you all particulars relative to the late purchase which I hope will give satisfaction. The Taranaki question I will follow up with all diligence, coupled with caution, like all such questions, it has its intricacies and must be handled carefully. I will keep you well informed thereupon. I have forwarded some accounts by this mail for your approval. I hope you will be so kind as to do as much as you can for me in the way of Native presents, for I think it may be well bestowed just at present, while things are looking favourable, and their inclinations strong for selling. I assure you Sir I spend a great deal among them and therefor hope you will also be liberal. Excuse this haste. I remain Dr. Sir Yours most respectfully Robert Parris. To D Mclean .Esq auckland
