With regard to your salary, you may draw once a quarter, commencing at the ----- for which purpose printed forms will be sent to you. In paying such men as you may think necessary for carrying out the Surveys, receipts should be taken in duplicate, in the form of an Abstract, showing the periods during which they have been employed. The rate, of course, muct depend on the state of the labour market, taking care that efficiency is combined with economy. Should you require implements procurable in the Wairarapa, at moderate prices, you may furnish yourself with them; taking care to have receipts for their amount signed in duplicate before a witness. For such instruments and other materials as you may from time to time require, you will be good enough to give a requisition in a simple form, signed by yourself. N.B.
