My dear Sir, I received your letters (2) and owing to various circumstances I have been unable to reply sooner. I met a Civil Engineer and Surveyor this morning, a thorough practical man, who has an apprentice about as good as himself and who are now employed on the line of railway - Will suit you, I can speak to their efficiency - Mr. Malcomson will join you provided the appointment is permanent for £400 a year. Mr. Bellair who is now in the survey office and is a good draftsman as well as a practical Surveyor, he would take employment indoors at £300. I will write to White about Mr. Turley and let you know the result. The Waikato confiscation question is now giving employment to so man surveyors that if you really want people to do your work properly you will require to be quick or you will not succeed. Excuse haste and believe me as usual J. Rogan Mar. 3 64
