Te Wairou Stockade Augst. 12, 1865 Sir, I beg to enclose letter received from the Native Chief Kopu, respecting some irregularities existing here on the part of the native policemen. Kopu has seen me today and expresses himself in terms hoping that someone representg. the Govt. would take steps in suppressing the drunkenness among some of the policemen receiving pay from the Govt. As I have not had any instructions relative to these men I have advised Kopu to state his complaint in writing and I wld. forward it to your Honor - I might here mention that Kopu has asked me, what is to done with the money he has received as a fine from these men?
