Mount Herbert. 1st. February 1869. My dear McLean, I enclose a note which Mrs. Scully has written to me, and without any desire to interfere in any way with the Police arrangements I think it right to send you the note for perusal, in case you may find it possible somewhat to improve Scully's position. I know the high opinion you entertain of that officer, in common with all Classes of the settlers, and I am sure you will do all in your power in the matter. You can return Mrs. Scully's note to me as she seems not to wish even Scully to know about her having written. I fancy Scully's shy nature may have prevented him putting his case before you. Yours always, H.R. Russell. D. McLean, Esq.
