Waitara drew his money out of the Savings Bank. Posted usual report to you by this day's overland mail to Wellington. C.W. Foot v. Merritt, case, debt - allowed time to pay. T. Harrison v. Sutton, debt, defendant arranged to pay without a hearing. By direction of Resident Magistrate I asked Poharama to assist to fence between his Reserve and Mr. W. Bayly's from adjourning. Poharama was willing and promised to speak to his young men. On Te Rangi Kapuoho's complaint against Mr. Billing's cattle running over his kumara garden, two policemen went with him and estimated the damage at 2/-. Overland Mail from Auckland. Brown - sundries. 22 Te Ngahuru told Resident Magistrate that the Hauranga natives would give up the Wairoa if the Messrs. Morgan would plough and harrow a piece of land on the Northern side of the Timaru - Mr. Morgan agreed to prepare six acres on Resident Magistrate's promise to represent the case to Government. 23 On W. Patara's complaint agst. Mr. Vicker's cattle trespassing, two of the Police went to the cultivation and estimated the damages at 10/-. 24 General muster. Attended at Police Office. The "Shepherdess", Swann, 10 days from Wellington with a general cargo - same sailed for Kawhia. The "Governor Grey", Watt, from Whanganui with bricks and timbe Received Warrant of Arrest against Joseph Jenner Merritt for debt and delivered him into the custody of the gaoler. Katherine Stewart Forbes having discharged sailed for Batavia. Mr. Merritt escaped from prison, was taken by the Police and handed over to the gaoler.
