Clyde. February 20th. 1869. Sir, I have the honor to inform you that upon receipt of information from Turanga, respecting the movements of the enemy, Paora te Apatu went on from Waka Kaiwaka. He has gone for men, - to meet Ihaka Wanga, and consult with him. Te Waru is supposed to be at the Lake. Te Kooti at Waichika, head of the Wairoa and Whakatane rivers; indeed no great distance above Puketapu. This is purely native rumour at present; confirmed, I believe, by Karepa, Tamihana Rua Tapu's son. The natives here express great desire to make a movement on Waikare.
